Joint inversion of earthquake-based horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio and phase velocity dispersion: Applications to Garner Valley

Joint inversion of horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios (HVSRs) and dispersion curves (DCs) from seismic noise recordings has been extensively used to overcome the lack uniqueness in noise-based HVSR (NHV) or DC inversions alone. Earthquake contain information about structural properties sedimentary layers provide body-wave data complementary estimate site velocity structures, particularly high-frequency band. We propose a joint Rayleigh wave obtained array measurements earthquake-based (EHV). The EHV is derived earthquake motions rather than microtremors based on diffuse-field theory plane waves. investigated complementarity surface-wave through sensitivity analyses. sensitive bedrock shear-wave velocities low-frequency range supplemented some degree by range. more sediment thicknesses almost over entire frequency implemented hybrid global optimization scheme that combines genetic algorithm (GA) simulated annealing (SA) avoid premature convergence GA. parameters was tested demonstrate P- S-wave soil are dominant influencing responses. proposed method validated using synthetic models compare with applied Garner Valley Downhole Array (GVDA) for identifying structures observations. results strongly suggest an efficient structures.
